Ottoman Empire Sultans I Ertugtul Ghazi I

In the years when the Muslim world was was dealing with all kinds of troubles and the Mongolian oppression raged everywhere. The hope of a fresh Resurrection in every part of the Islamic world an specially in Anatolia. So in this era, not only Anatolia but to protect the whole Muslim world from the Mongols, Ertugrul Ghazi was born. Little is known about Ertugrul's life. Ertugrul Ghazi was born at the end of th century.

According to Ottoman tradition, he is the son of Sulaiman Shah, the leader of one the tribes of Oghuz Turks, the Kayi tribe. A claim which has come under critism from many historians is that, he may be the son of Gunduz Alp instead of Sulaiman Shah, who fled from the Western Central Asia to Anatolia to escape the Mongolian conquests. Nothing is known about Ertugrul's life, other than he was the father of Osman Ghazi. Like this, historians for over a century are forced to believe the stories about him from the Ottomans, which are of questionable accuracy.

An undated coin, supposedly from the time of Osman, with the text "Minted by Osman son Ertugrul" suggests that Ertugrul was a historical figure. Another coin reads "Osman bin Ertugrul bin Gunduz Alp". However, from the history of Enveri's dustername (), Karamani Mehmat Pasha's chronicle (before ) chronicle Tevarih-I Al-I Osman (th century), Ertugrul is the son of Sulaiman Shah. And so on, Sulaiman Shah became official and Gunduz Alp was removed. His mother was Haima Hatun and spouse Halime Hatun. According to many Turkish sources, Ertugrul had three brothers named; Sungutakin, Gondogdu and Dundar. While, he had three sons named; Gunduz Bey, Savci Bey and Osman Ghazi. According to the legend, after the death of his father, Ertugrul became replacement and he alongwith his followers entered the service of Sultanate of Rum, for which he was rewarded with dominion over the town of Sogut on the frontier with the Byzantine Empire.

And so on, Ertugrul set off the chain of events that would ultimately lead to the founding of the Ottoman Empire. His ancestors participated in the conquest of Anatolia with Sultan Alp Arslan. Later he settled in Ahlat region and took part in all the raids made to make Anatolia a homeland due to the ongoing Mangolian invasions. They firstly moved to Mardin and then into Anatolia while the Mongolian tyranny raged everywhere. Ertugrul Gazi and those who set their minds on the right path with them headed towards the west. They set out to carry the name and judgement of Allah everywhere. According to the legend, Kayilar helped the Seljuks who fought the Mongols and ensured their victory.

They received the compliments and gifts of the Seljuk Sultan, the first Allaaddin Keykubat Sultan Allaaddin granted them new lands in Karaca Deg, a mountainous area between Diyarbakir and Urfa. The conquest journey of Kayi tribe, reached the borders of Byzantine. One account indicates that the Seljuk leader’s rationale for granting Ertugrul to repel any hostile incursion from the Byzantines or other adversary. Later, he received the village of Sogut as a home which he conquered together with the surrounding lands. That village, where he later died, became the Ottoman capital under his son, Osman . Ertugrul Gazi, with his three leaders there ruled for centuries and he laid the foundations of the state Ali Osmani, which ruled three continents with justice. Ertugrul Gazi spend winter in Sogut and spend summer in the Domanic highlands. He continued the struggle with the other three leaders in the Byzantine tribes.

Thus, the Kayi tribe, which settled in Sogut, grew stronger day by day. Ertugrul Gazi greeted the Seljuk Sultan third Giyaseddin Kehusrev in the Byzantine tribes and declared their allegiance to him. He died in Sogut in the place of resurrection at the age towards the end of the th century. A tomb and mosque dedicated to Ertugrul is said to have been built by Osman at Sogut but due to several rebuildings nothing certain can be said about the origin of these structures. The current mausoleum was built by Sultan Abdul Hamid  in the late th century. The town of Sogut celebrates an annual festival to the memory of the early Osmans. The Ottoman frigate Ertugrul, launched in , was named after him. Abdul Hamid also had a yacht with the same name.

The Ertugrul Tekke Mosque (late th century) in Istanbul, Turkey and the Ertugrul Ghazi Mosque in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (completed in ), are also named in his honor. The mosque was established by the Turkish government as a symbol of the link between Turkey and Turkmenistan. Ertugrul is one of several statues that surrounded the Independence Monument in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The statues depict people praised in the Ruhnama, a spiritual guide by Turkmenistan president Saparmurat Niyazov. The Ertugrul statue has also been depicted on a commemorative coin. statues of Ertugrul on horseback were placed by a private cooperative housing society in Lahore, Pakistan in because they were inspired by Dirilis Ertugrul, a TV-series. A bust of Ertugrul was erected in Urdu, Turkey in but it was removed by local authorities after it was pointed out that it resembled the Ertugrul-actor from the same TV-series. Three TV-series have been made on Ertugrul named; Kurulus/Osmansic(), Dirilis Ertugrul(-) and Kurulus Osman(). Ertugrul Gazi’s life passed with migration and struggle. He made his tribe live in peace. He was the hope of oppressed. He was very generous. He has always helped poor. Ertugrul Gazi was a brave man

. He gained the title of Gazi with his brilliant successes against the neighboring Byzantine overloads called Tekfur. With these wars, he prepared the birth of the Ottoman Empire who devoted his life to the service of the nation. The blessed path that established the emperor, knitted knot by knot a just statesman a heroic Alp.
